The Pure Blue Japan 16oz indigo slubs marks my first experience wearing PBJ denim, and it has quickly become an essential part of my daily wardrobe - both for work and off-duty moments.
My initial decision to choose this pair was driven by its uniquely expressive fabric. The slub texture immediately stood out, offering a depth and irregularity that feels alive with character. Complemented by PBJ's iconic leaf embroidery on the back pocket, the design remains understated yet unmistakably distinctive. I opted for
"013 fit" the slim tapered cut, which strikes the perfect balance for my build - tallored without feeling restrictive, structured yet comfortable throughout long days of wear.

The deep, saturated indigo tone was another defining factor. There is a richness to the color that feels substantial from the very first wear. Even then, I was confident this denim would reward patience with beautiful, natural fading over time.
After three months of consistent wear and hand washing, that expectation has proven true. Subtle yet dynamic changes have begun to emerge. The irregular fading highlights the fabric's slub character, revealing tiny, scattered specks and organic contrasts that cannot be replicated artificially. Each wash further enhances the texture, allowing the denim to evolve while maintaining its integrity.
Today, the denim continues to look refined and full of life
— a testament to both the craftsmanship of Pure Blue Japan and the personal journey that only raw denim can offer.
